  Mission Statement
To empower volunteers to serve their communities, meet humanitarian needs, encourage peace and promote international understanding through Lions clubs.

Brief History
The Bronx Lions Club was chartered in the spring of 1923. Records indicate that during the 1930s the Bronx Lions conducted classes in Americanism and helped thousands of new immigrants to become U.S. citizens. After World War II the Bronx Lions entered into a joint effort with the New York Institute for the Blind to provide therapy and training to veterans who were blinded in action.

During the 1950s the Bronx Lions pioneered regular Glaucoma Screening Clinics at the Bronx Eye and Ear Hospital. The purchase of a Vision Van permitted the Bronx Lions to hold vision screenings on every corner of the borough.

Eyeglass Recycling
We have eyeglass collection boxes in many areas of the borough. Every year we collect in excess of 2,000 pair. Lions International collects in excess of 10 million pair. Most of these are delivered to 13 major collection centers in the USA (including Trenton NJ) where the eyeglasses are cleaned and passed through a lensometer which reads and prints out the prescriptions. The eyeglasses are then catalogued and packed. Thus, when a mission is going to occur somewhere in the world, a wide variety of prescriptions can be gathered quickly.
One of our sister clubs in Yonkers also makes semi-annual trips to The Philippines and Guatemala. Recently we presented them with over 2,000 pair for their trip in the fall.

The Bronx Lions Club has a long-standing relationship with the Montefiore Medical Center.

In the 1980s and 1990s the Bronx Lions expanded its mission to include Lions Baseball Nights and support of Camp Sunshine, a camp in Maine for children with life-threatening illnesses.
